From May 3 to May 15, 2025, Christie’s Geneva held the private jewelry collection auction of the late Austrian philanthropist Heidi Horten, titled “The World of Heidi Horten.
The highest-priced piece of the auction was the “Sunrise” ruby ring created by Cartier, featuring a 25.59 carat cushion-cut Burmese pigeon-blood ruby, unheated.
The ring was hammered down at 13.06 million Swiss francs.
Why do celebrity collectors love cushion-cut unheated Burmese pigeon-blood rubies?
• Cushion cuts enhance brilliance and highlight the rich texture of rubies.
• The larger table gives a visually bigger appearance.
• Compared with other cuts of the same carat weight, cushion cuts look more luxurious.
• Rounded corners make them less prone to chipping.
• Cushion cuts convey vintage elegance and timeless classic style, making them versatile for different jewelry settings.
The ruby shown in the video is a 5.20-carat cushion-cut unheated pigeon blood red ruby from Mogok, Myanmar a highly collectible gemstone.👀❤️💎
